Construction of a new car checkpoints has started on the Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island. So far, the work is being done on the Chinese side – Russia plans to start laying the road next spring and complete the project simultaneously with China in 2026.
The new border checkpoint will be one of the largest, with a traffic capacity of more than 1.3 million tons of cargo per year. In addition, it will be open all year round. It in turn will solve the problem of seasonality of cross-border contacts with Khabarovsk Region.
They also plan to create a bonded zone for duty-free trade and e-commerce support on the island.
“The opening of the car checkpoint on Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island will significantly increase the ability to transport goods and people across the border,” said Wang Chunyu, head of the Planning Department of the Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island Management Administrative Committee of the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government.
At the Russia-China Forum experts will discuss topical issues of customs processes and prospects of cross-border transportation:
November 14 15:00-17:00 (Hall 2) Session “Improving Customs Processes: the Path to Effective Trade Relations between China and Russia”: discussion of challenges and barriers and developing recommendations to improve the efficiency of trade flows.
