The Valdai Discussion Club, together with the East China Normal University Centre for Russian Studies, held the annual conference “The Era of Multipolarity: New Horizons for Russian–Chinese Cooperation” in Shanghai. Leading experts from both countries gathered to discuss the most pressing issues on the global agenda.
The discussions focused on the transformation of the international financial architecture, the development of logistics across the Eurasian space, and the current geopolitical landscape. Participants emphasised that the resilience of Russian–Chinese relations today serves as a stabilising factor for the global system.
“A Russian–Chinese ecosystem is likely to develop at an accelerated pace. This concerns many areas: interest in the Arctic, the Far East, and the more active use of Russia’s eastern seaports and harbours,” said Andrey Bystritskiy, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club.
Experts also addressed the topic of artificial intelligence. Russia and China view it as a driver of economic growth closely linked to issues of sovereignty and security. A proposal was put forward to combine efforts in order to help countries of the Global South gain access to advanced technologies and integrate into international supply chains.
