For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, Chinese Railways has launched a Beijing-Ulaanbaatar-Moscow passenger train on a pilot trip through the Russian Railways network. It consists of Chinese-made wagons that had not previously run in Russia. Based on the test results, a decision will be made on the possibility of operating this rolling stock on the Russian infrastructure and running the train on a regular basis, RIA Novosti reported.
Passenger traffic between the countries was temporarily suspended in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"In accordance with the agreements reached between Russian Railways, the Chinese Railways State Corporation and Ulaanbaatar Railways JSC, an experimental trip of the international passenger train No. 3/4 Beijing- Moscow on the Beijing- Ulaanbaatar-Moscow route and back is currently underway (from February 25 to March 11, 2025)," - Russian Railways reported on Monday.
According to the company, the train consists of 12 Chinese-made wagons that were not previously used on Russian railways: six compartment wagons, two utility wagons, one staff wagon, one baggage wagon and two power wagons.
Current challenges in the field of cross-border transportation and the identification of promising directions for overcoming them are included in the list of issues to be discussed during the sessions held within the framework of the SPROUTS forum.
