Increased efforts to protect and disseminate the cultural heritage of the Great Tea Road, which passed through Irkutsk as well, and assistance in cooperation in this area were discussed by representatives of Russia, Mongolia and China at the International Round Table. It was held in Wuhan (China). In addition to Chinese representatives, it was attended by delegations from the Russian cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Irkutsk and Mongolian Ulaanbaatar.
“The topic of the report of the Irkutsk side was “History of the Tea Route through Irkutsk”. It was told about the objects of cultural heritage, which housed the first tea stores, and about prominent Siberian merchants who left their mark in the history of Irkutsk, including through tea trade and industrial development of this industry. These are Ponomarev, Khaminov, Rodionov, Kuznetsov and others,” said Irina Belaya, Head of the Architecture Department of the Irkutsk Region Cultural Heritage Protection Service.
On the initiative of China, confirmed by partners - participants of the round table, it is proposed to make efforts to include the Great Tea Road in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In this regard, countries and cities along the route are recommended to pay more attention to the protection of its cultural heritage, promote the continuation of research and ensure the popularization of its values for future generations.
Tatarstan is also included in the international tourism project “Great Tea Road”. This was announced by Yulia Maksutova, Director of the Center for International Tourism Development, at the second International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China - mutually beneficial cooperation”.
“The “Great Tea Road” project, which will connect Russia and China, is being developed. 19 regions, as well as major Russian cities, want to be included in it” - Maksutova said, noting that most of the cities participating in the ‘tea route’ are concentrated on the territory of the Russian Federation.
