SCO: Developing Young Leaders and Joint Steps to Preserve Nature

The Russian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) took part in the seventh meeting of heads of ministries and agencies of SCO member states in charge of environmental protection. In honor of the organization's 25th anniversary, joint actions to preserve ecosystems and biodiversity were discussed. The head of the Russian delegation, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Tetenkin, presented the “Ecological Well-Being” project and proposed holding meetings amongst young environmental leaders to exchange ideas
on the regular basis.

Prior to the meeting, with the assistance of the SCO Secretariat and member states, the first meeting of the International School of Young Environmental Leaders was held at RUDN University, where the experience of the Leningrad School of EcoLeaders and the work of EcoCouncils was shared.

The delegation also highlighted the important role young people play
in environmental protection. The SCO Youth Environmental Network will unite activists to tackle environmental challenges and preserve the planet.
