On 16 August, the Chinese Dragon Boat Races will take place on Lake Nizhny Kaban in Kazan. This will be one of the cultural programme highlights of the 4th International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”. Everyone is welcome to watch the competition free of charge.
This year, 18 teams representing Tatarstan’s largest enterprises and government departments will compete. Teams from “KORIB”, “Setevaya Kompaniya” (“Network Company”), “Tatkabel”, Rosselkhozbank, “Makskam”, “Megastroy”, “Zarnitsa”, Yelabuga Automobile Plant, EIDOS, PSB, Khimgrad, ICL, and others will compete for victory.
The races take place on special boats decorated with a dragon’s head and tail. Each team consists of ten paddlers, a drummer who sets the rhythm, and a steersperson. According to the rules, at least one woman must be on the crew.
Six boats set out on the track simultaneously. The winner is the team whose boat crosses the finish line first.
Dragon Boat Races are considered one of China’s most famous national holidays. In Tatarstan, they have already become a well-deserved tradition at the SPROUTS Forum, bringing together the business, cultural, and sporting aspects of Russian-Chinese cooperation.

The competition in Tatarstan has been attracting thousands of spectators for several years. An engaging cultural and entertainment programme is prepared for them.
