Mo Yan is a contemporary Chinese writer, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and Honorary Doctor of Philology at the Open University of Hong Kong.
The plot of the play takes place in 227 BC, the entire Chinese land is fragmented into separate small kingdoms, which are mired in a fierce struggle among themselves. The most powerful of these is Qin with its king Ying Zheng. The prince of one of the small states decides to organize the assassination of the king.
The prince chooses the experienced and brave warrior Jing Ke. He devises a plan for an assassination attempt that is not to be realized.
