The volume of grain supplies from Tatarstan to the People's Republic of China is growing rapidly. In the first 6 months of last year, China accounted for 7% of total agricultural exports, while this year it accounted for 13.5%, an increase of 6.5%. Such data is provided by the Federal Center for Assessment of Safety and Quality of Agricultural Products in the Republic of Tatarstan.
In the first half of last year, Tatarstan agricultural producers shipped to China more than 3.8 thousand tons of grain (barley), 65 tons of wheat flour, and more than 5.1 thousand tons of vegetable oil. And this year, following the results of 6 months, 2.7 thousand tons of oats, 9.5 thousand tons of vegetable oil, and 195 tons of flour were sent to China. According to the results of the first half of 2025, oats and peas accounted for the largest share of exports from the Republic of Tatarstan.
In addition, the range of products supplied to China has expanded this year. If in January-June last year only barley and flour were shipped to this country, then this year they were supplemented with oilseeds and legumes, which show good dynamics compared to last year. For example, more than 3.5 thousand tons of food peas, 0.4 thousand tons of rapeseed and sunflower seeds, and almost 2 thousand tons of flax were exported. Grain processing products, beet pulp (more than 5.2 thousand tons), were also exported. Supplies of flour tripled, and vegetable oil increased by almost 88%.
"From our communication with Tatarstan exporters, we realised that they have optimistic forecasts for the second half of the year. In general, export volumes are always higher in the second half of the year. The business is interested in exporting products to China. First of all, the price factor plays a role – it is profitable to supply products to this country. If an enterprise exports products to China, this can increase the level of trust in it, for example, from large holdings and not only. Because, I repeat, the requirements for foreign products in China are very high," said the director of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Federal Center for Safety and Quality Assessment of the Agro–Industrial Complex in the Republic of Tatarstan (branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Central Committee of Agriculture in the Republic of Tatarstan) Tatiana Menlikieva.
