Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on an official visit. Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed him at Tiananmen Square in Beijing with an honour guard and an official ceremony.
During the talks, the two sides discussed the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation. Xi Jinping confirmed Beijing’s readiness to extend the agreement and continue strategic cooperation with Russia. Putin described the treaty as the foundation of bilateral relations. Following the negotiations, the leaders signed a Joint Statement on Strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation.
On the economic front, the Russian President noted that trade turnover between the two countries has increased more than thirtyfold over the past 25 years and has exceeded $200 billion for several consecutive years. He described the energy sector as the driving force of cooperation. Other priority areas include industry, agriculture, transport and high technologies.
The parties also agreed to strengthen coordination within the frameworks of the United Nations, BRICS, G20 and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. At the conclusion of the meeting, Putin invited Xi Jinping to visit Russia in 2027.
