The number of students enrolled in dual degree programmes with China is growing

The number of Chinese students at KNRTU-KAI has almost tripled over the past five years, and their number is also increasing at KNRTU-KICT. These are two universities in Tatarstan that implement the "dual degree" programme, when graduate documents are recognised in both Russia and China. The programme includes a large number of majors. The number of such universities may grow. KGEU is currently working on the creation of a joint educational programme in the field of mechatronic technologies with Chinese universities, and in the future Innopolis University may have a programme in IT specialties, the programme is also presented at KFU, KIU and other universities. Cooperation between the countries in the field of education will be discussed at the III International Forum "SPROUTS: Russia and China – mutually beneficial cooperation", held in Kazan on August 18-19, 2025.

KNRTU-KAI implements the dual degree programme in seven educational areas:"Radio Engineering", "Information and Communication Technologies and communication systems", "Management in technical systems", "Thermal power engineering and heat engineering", "Computer Science and computer engineering (research in the field of computer and technical systems)" and "Electric power engineering and electrical engineering", which they are implemented in English, and "Aircraft Engines" are in Russian.
Last academic year, in cooperation with Northwestern Polytechnic University, 25 Chinese students received education in two "LingYun" ("Aspiring Upward") groups. This is almost half of the total number of students from China – there were more than 50 of them in the 2024/2025 academic year at KNRTU-KAI. Together with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), they are preparing bachelors in the Helicopter Engineering educational programme. For the first time, students enrolled in China in 2023, and this year they are scheduled to begin studying in Kazan at KNRTU-KAI.

KNRTU-KCIT has four dual degree programmes jointly with the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT). "Polymer Technology and Processing" and "Digital Engineering in Polymer Technology and Processing" were launched in 2023. Last year, "Digital methods in polymer and composite materials processing technology" and "Technological installations of the oil and gas complex" programmed were lauched.

In September 2023, 14 KNRTU students were sent to BUCT, who returned in June this year. In the new academic year, 15 people are planning to study in Beijing.

Kazan Federal University has more than 2,000 students from China, including 140 students funded by the federal budget. More than 1,000 KFU students study Chinese as part of their core educational programmes. Academic exchange programmes are successfully operating, in which more than 30 students from each country annually go to semester studies or summer school at a partner university. So, this year, only within the framework of the wellknown federal project "Summer University", 22 students from China arrived at KFU, and 38 students from KFU went to Beijing Pedagogical University, Northwestern Pedagogical University, Beijing Polytechnic Institute, Jiaxing and Jining Universities.

This year, 4 students of the Chinese Petroleum University (East China) in the field of Geology are studying with a second diploma at KFU ("Integrated data Analysis in oil and gas geology"), 2 students of KFU were trained at a partner university. The work will continue, and joint educational programmes with Hunan Pedagogical University and Beijing Information Vocational Institute will be next.

Tatarstan universities also work with Chinese universities under regular cooperation agreements. So, KGEU has them with three universities in China – Linyi University, Linyi Polytechnic Institute and Chongqing University of Post and Telecommunications. Last year, an alumna of the bachelor programme from the Energy University was accepted into the master's programme of the last of them. He is studying on a budgetary basis. KFU implements more than 60 partnership agreements with Chinese universities and partner organisations from 22 provinces of China.
