Chinese President Xi Jinping personally presented the State Science and Technology Award for International Cooperation of China to Russian crystallographer and materials scientist Artyom Oganov.
Oganov developed pioneering methods for predicting crystal structures and designing new materials, which formed the foundation of the USPEX software. Today, the programme is used by more than 11,000 scientists worldwide. His research has made a significant contribution to the advancement of materials science, physics, chemistry and geosciences.
Another Russian recipient was Professor Anatoly Kudryavtsev of the Harbin Institute of Technology, a specialist in low-temperature plasma research.
The State Science and Technology Award for International Cooperation of China is one of the country's highest honours for foreign scientists. Presented every two years, it recognises outstanding contributions to international scientific and technological cooperation. In 2026, the award was bestowed upon nine international researchers.
