RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS SERGEY LAVROV AND CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER WANG YI DISCUSS STRATEGIC SECURITY INTERESTS OF THE TWO COUNTRIES

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Moscow. In his welcoming remarks, the Russian foreign minister drew attention to the fact that Wang Yi's current visit to Russia is by no means his first trip to our country, but the first after his regular appointment as foreign minister.

"With what I would like to congratulate you once again," Lavrov emphasized. At the same time, he pointed to the importance of Russian Chinese cooperation for ensuring justice in world affairs and recalled the successful coordination between Moscow and Beijing with the countries of the Global South at the East Asia summit in Jakarta, the G20 summit in New Delhi and within the framework of the SCO. Lavrov expressed confidence that Russia and China will continue their coordinated work at the UN General Assembly and the upcoming APEC summit in November.

In turn, the Chinese minister said that the current geopolitical situation requires China and Russia to constantly maintain contacts and synchronize their watches. He outlined the readiness of the Chinese side together with Russia to advocate the formation of a multipolar world. "Our bilateral cooperation is not directed against anyone," the Chinese foreign minister clarified.
