The capital of Tatarstan recently hosted two major rowing competitions simultaneously – the Russian Dragon Boat Racing Championship and the Russian Rowing Federation Student Championship. Kazan welcomed these prestigious events for the first time, further reinforcing its reputation as one of Russia’s leading sporting cities. The competitions brought together 340 athletes from 20 regions across the country.

Three teams represented the Republic of Tatarstan. Taking part were the student team of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism; the amateur rowing team Novo Group; and the Tatarstan national team, composed of athletes from the Olympic Reserve School for Rowing Sports.

“It is a great honour and a sign of trust. We successfully accomplished our task and organised the competitions to a high standard. Despite the challenging weather conditions, everything went well,” said Alexander Vasilyev, Executive Director of the Tatarstan Canoe and Kayak Federation, summarising the results of the tournament.

The successful hosting of the Dragon Boat Championship marks an important step in the implementation of Tatarstan’s long-term strategy for the development of rowing sports. Building on this initiative, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan has announced a new dragon boat race, which will take place on 16 August in Kazan as part of the International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”.

Applications from organisations and companies are being accepted until 15 June via email at frp.rt@tatar.ru.
