Chinese filmmakers interested in joint projects with Russia and Tatarstan
Tatarstan and China could implement joint film projects. The topic could be virtually anything. This was stated by directors, screenwriters, and producers Zheng Yunchang and Shi Jia, as well as Ilias Gafarov, Director of the Tatarkino State Budgetary Institution, answering journalists’ questions at the 4th International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”.
As Ilias Gafarov noted, film industry representatives from China, Russia in general, and Tatarstan in particular are focusing their film and animation projects on understanding the history of their people, exploring intersections between them, and finding ways to reach the hearts of young people and convey their rich traditions.
“The list of topics is quite extensive, from the Great Silk Road and historical figures from China and Russia to fantasy characters who overcome various challenges and find answers to universal questions that concern both young people and adults around the world,” said Ilias Gafarov.
“Ever since childhood, I have been interested in Russian culture. I really enjoyed reading various ancient stories. They could form the basis of a new project. The national songs of the Volga Region peoples could also serve as a foundation,” said Zheng Yunchang.
According to the Chinese filmmakers, Kazan is a very colourful and diverse city. They greatly appreciated the blend of Eastern and European cultures. “Culture knows no countries or borders, which opens up broad prospects for collaboration. I really liked Kazan; I think I might come back again. I think the city’s ancient, beautiful architecture will serve the production process,” said Shi Jia.

The International Forum “SPROUTS: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” will be held in Kazan on 16-19 August.
