On 1 June 2026, the international Taklimakan Rally 2026 came to a close. Widely regarded as one of the longest and most demanding off-road competitions in Asia and often referred to as the “Dakar of the East”, the rally concluded with crews taking to the start of the final stage to determine the overall winners and podium finishers. The decisive battle in the truck category unfolded on the extremely challenging 13th special stage in the picturesque Wensu Grand Canyon area, providing a true test of endurance, skill and determination.
This year’s rally proved particularly gruelling. Competitors faced towering sand dunes, gravel tracks, rough terrain, sandstorms and intense heat, with temperatures reaching as high as 52°C on some stages. Crews were required to navigate narrow roads, deep canyons, rocky routes and numerous other hazards that tested both machinery and human resilience.
The Taklimakan Rally 2026 marked a significant milestone for the KAMAZ-master team. The Russian competitors not only rose to the challenge of the extreme conditions but dominated the event, achieving an outstanding result. The crew of driver Bogdan Karimov, navigator Dmitry Nikitin and mechanic Ilgiz Akhmetzyanov demonstrated exceptional tactics, driving skill and vehicle reliability to secure overall victory.
Second place was claimed by another KAMAZ-master crew consisting of Almaz Akhmedov, Ivan Malkov and Anton Shibalov, further underlining the strength and depth of the Russian team. Third place went to the URAL MOTORSPORT crew of Yury Naiman, Alexander Shmelev and Anton Kushnikov, who fought valiantly until the finish and displayed a high level of preparation and determination.
Over the course of two weeks, participants covered nearly 3,500 competitive kilometres, with approximately 60 per cent of the route traversing sandy terrain. The rally passed through several regions of China, including the Gobi and Yardang deserts, and featured a wide variety of landscapes, from vast sand dunes and deep canyons to dry riverbeds.
The Head (Rais) of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, personally congratulated KAMAZ-master on its victory in the Taklimakan Rally 2026.
“Our champions in China! Gold and silver at the Taklimakan Rally added to our collection of victories! We are proud of you — well done! Forward, KAMAZ-master!” the Head of the Republic wrote on his official Telegram channel.
This triumph once again confirmed KAMAZ-master’s status as one of the strongest racing teams in the world and demonstrated the highest standards of Russian motorsport on the international stage.
